Towards Syrian Unity: A Message to Every Citizen in Syria
"أنا شعبي انتخبني لأنه بحبني".. مكسيم خليل يثير الجدل ببوستر مسلسل "ابتسم أيها الجنرال"

In light of the heated events taking place in the cities and countryside of Aleppo and Idlib, from violent clashes between the armed Syrian opposition factions and the government regime forces, especially after the opposition took control of large parts of the city of Aleppo, the Syrian artist, Maxim Khalil, wrote a message to his fellow Syrians.

**Towards Syrian Unity: A Message to Every Citizen in Syria**

To our Syrian people in all regions:

To everyone who follows videos and news, whether in secrecy or openly, and to all who feel fear, joy, sadness, anticipation, revenge, anxiety, or victory, I would like to convey this message:

"We are one body; we are not enemies; we are family, but we are simply divided."

We have been divided, deliberately, on ideological, sectarian, regional, and leadership bases, and the most dangerous threat to our relationship is the "ego" that drives us. Arrogance is what prevents us from seeing the truth. It is what frightens us from stepping outside our comfort zones, and it is what makes us hesitant to acknowledge our mistakes or even accept the views of others.

I invite your heart to open; do not be afraid. Try to see yourself from a different perspective. Look at the feelings, concerns, fears, and struggles of others. You will gain a deeper understanding and feel compassion and a desire to help, because the injustice you suffer is, in the end, an extension of their injustice.

I am convinced that each one of us, in a moment of honesty, knows the truth, understands the reasons for our problems, and even possesses the solution. However, we cling to our ideas, questioning the source of this attachment: is it fear, distrust of others, which in turn arises from fear?

If you open your mind a little, you will realize that most of your negative feelings are rooted in "fear." And this fear can turn you into a tyrant, a oppressor, or a resentful person, or even into a cowardly opportunist.

I firmly believe that the vast majority of the Syrian people are kind, generous, brave, and loving. This is not just talk; it is the result of experience. Just like in every nation in the world, there are some individuals who pursue their personal interests, controlling the emotions of others.

The solution to Syria's problems lies within every Syrian who is willing to open their heart to others, confront their fears and thoughts for the freedom of others. The magic solution is overcoming selfishness and directing our loyalty solely towards a great Syria.

Some may wonder: what is the benefit of this talk at a time when weapons often speak? But the truth is that this message is rather self-evident in times of gunfire and our ongoing struggle.
