UNIFIL Warns Against Israeli Incursion: A Violation of Lebanon's Sovereignty
اليونيفيل

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned that any Israeli incursion across the border represents a "violation" of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in light of Israel's announcement of a "limited" ground attack against Hezbollah.

In a press statement, the force confirmed that "any crossing into Lebanon is considered a violation of the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in addition to being a breach of Resolution 1701."

UNIFIL called on all parties to "refrain from these escalatory actions, which will only lead to increased violence and bloodshed," warning that "the cost of continuing in this direction will be extremely high."

It added that the Israeli army had informed it of its intention to carry out limited ground incursions in Lebanon.

UNIFIL noted that its peacekeeping forces have remained in their positions despite the ongoing developments in Lebanon.

It is worth mentioning that Security Council Resolution 1701 ended the month-long war in 2006 between Hezbollah and Israel, calling for Israel's complete withdrawal from southern Lebanon, and emphasizing that the Lebanese army and UN peacekeeping forces should be the only armed forces in the area south of the Litani River.
