Naeem Qassem: Ready for Ground Confrontation with Israel
نعيم قاسم

On Monday, Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary-General, Naeem Qassem, stated that the party is "prepared for a ground confrontation against Israel." He also announced that the party will soon elect a new Secretary-General to succeed Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated along with several other party leaders last Friday.

Qassem made these remarks during a televised speech lasting approximately 20 minutes, where he attempted to reassure the party's supporters and conveyed messages regarding Hezbollah’s future following the assassination of its Secretary-General.

He expressed condolences for the former Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, stating that the party has lost a leader who was deeply committed to the philosophy of Imam Khomeini. He noted that Israel had assassinated him along with a group of party leaders, including Ali Korky.

Qassem also denied claims that the meeting targeted by the Israeli attack in Hezbollah's central command headquarters in the southern suburbs included twenty leaders, adding that the assault also resulted in the death of Abbas Nilforoushan, a commander in the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Regarding Hezbollah's future, Qassem confirmed that the party will choose a new Secretary-General as soon as possible, according to its internal structures, while denying circulating rumors about appointing Hashem Safi al-Din to this position.

He added, "Despite the loss of some leaders and the attacks on civilians, we will not retreat from our steadfast and honorable positions. The resistance will continue to confront the Israeli enemy in defense of Palestine and Lebanon."
