Iranian Foreign Minister Warns of Potential War Spread Beyond the Middle East
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on Saturday about the risk of "the expansion" of the war in Gaza and Lebanon beyond the Middle East.
In statements reported by Iranian media, Araghchi said, "The world must understand that the continuation of the war will not be limited to its negative impacts in the West Asia region alone. Insecurity and instability can spread to other areas, even to distant places."
He considered that "the Zionist entity, through its continued aggressive policies and repeated violations of international law, threatens not only the stability and security of the region but also poses a serious challenge to the existing international order based on laws and norms." He stated that "its brutal attacks on civilians, destruction of critical infrastructure, and economic blockade are examples of actions that should be regarded as war crimes."
Araghchi continued: "The Zionist entity, the racist oppressor, rejects all initiatives for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and continues to commit its crimes in Palestine and Lebanon. Unfortunately, the international community stands powerless to stop the atrocities of the Zionists or merely watches their fires and temptations aimed at destabilizing the entire region."
These remarks come amid expectations that Tehran will respond to the strikes launched by Israel on October 25, which resulted in the deaths of four soldiers.
After more than a year of indirect warfare between Israel and Iran through their proxies in the region, the conflict has shifted in recent months to a direct confrontation between Tehran and Tel Aviv, with both sides exchanging missile attacks on multiple occasions.
