Iraqi Interior Minister, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, reviewed the measures taken to secure the borders with Syria, confirming that these are not new measures. In an interview with "Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath" today, Sunday, he explained that Baghdad has deployed additional forces toward areas adjacent to Syrian territory.

He reported that Iraqi forces have raised their maximum readiness along the border strip and indicated continued coordination with the Syrian regime in this regard.

The Deputy Commander of Iraqi Joint Operations, Qais Al-Muhammadawi, announced earlier today that border crossings have been secured in conjunction with developments in Syrian territory.

In press statements, he emphasized the armed forces' commitment to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani's directives in protecting the country's security. These developments coincide with rapid changes in the neighboring Syrian scene.

Armed groups began a surprise military operation in northern Aleppo since last Wednesday, where the majority of Syrian regime forces retreated from the country's second-largest city, despite having controlled it since 2016 after defeating the armed opposition.

This military operation has caused growing concern within Iraq, as well as Russia and Iran, allies of the Syrian regime, while Ankara denied any connection to this field development.
