Pedersen Warns of Regional Conflict Expanding to Syria
بيدرسون

Geir Pedersen, UN Special Envoy to Syria, reviewed in Damascus on Sunday escalating concerns about the expansion of regional conflict, emphasizing the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.

Pedersen, before meeting with Syrian regime's Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh, highlighted the importance of preventing Syrian territory from being drawn into the escalating conflict spiral in the region.

Syria has been witnessing increasing military escalation since the conflict erupted, with Israeli forces conducting hundreds of airstrikes targeting Syrian regime facilities, Iranian sites, and Hezbollah platforms, with attacks accelerating amid intensifying confrontation on the Lebanese front.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed that 92 pro-Iranian fighters were killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting the city of Palmyra in central Syria, indicating escalating confrontation intensity.

Tel Aviv typically reserves confirming responsibility for the strikes, but repeatedly affirms its confrontation of Iranian efforts to strengthen its military presence in Syria, recently focusing on disrupting Hezbollah's transfer of combat equipment from Syrian territory to Lebanon.
